So You Have Alopecia... We Have A Plan

You've been to your doctor and you have alopecia. You've been told it's auto-immune and nothing is working to grow your hair back... Don't fret!   We're going to outline a triple actioned plan to turn things around!  But first, a little refresher on alopecia:  Alopecia is simply defined as the partial or complete absence of hair in areas where hair normally grows.  Did you also know that there are several types of alopecia?  The most common kinds are as follows:

Alopecia Areata

A Hair loss condition that usually affects the scalp but can affect any portion of the skin where hair grows. Alopecia areata is thought to be an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system attacks hair follicles causing them to diminish in size and become dormant resulting in smooth round patches/areas with no hair.  Over 6.8 million people in the US alone suffer from this disorder and this number is steadily climbing so there is a good chance you or someone you know will combat this disorder at some point in life. A common medical treatment can consist of corticosteroid injections.

Cicatrical Alopecia

According to the NIH National Institute of Health, Cicatricial alopecia is also described as scarring alopecia.  It refers to a group of rare disorders that destroy hair follicles and replace them with scar tissue, resulting in permanent hair loss.  Behind all of these symptoms is inflammation.  Redness, heat, pain, or swelling occurs at the upper part of the hair follicle where stem cells and sebaceous (oil) glands are located.  In most cases, painful, itchy bumps appear, sometimes filled with fluid.  Irritation can also occur, resulting in scar tissue in the area.  Cicatricial alopecia can occur at any age,  primarily found in women of African descent.  The cause is not known or well understood.

Traction Alopecia

Traction Alopecia is a form of hair loss that is gradual and happens over time.  It is caused by pulling force exerted on the hair.  Traction alopecia is usually caused by tight ponytails, braids, extensions, weaves, or dreadlocks.  In this situation, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.  Eliminating this form of alopecia heavily depends of the sufferer.  Avoid excessive tension on the hair.  If you should develop traction alopecia, the first thing to do is REMOVE THE TENSION FROM YOUR HAIR.  Remember, certain areas are more delicate prone to hair loss.  These areas are your edges, temples and crown.  AVOID GLUE!  Choose sew-in methods instead or even opt for clip-ins!
Protect your hairline and edges from wig friction by avoiding direct contact.  Try putting a silk headband around your edges, and then a protective wig cap next to your scalp prior to applying your wig.

Androgenic Alopecia

Also known as male/female pattern baldness, androgenic alopecia is a common form of hair loss that affects both men and women. In men, hair loss usually begins around the edges/temples and has a well defined pattern and usually results in the popular "M" shape. Hair can also become sparse around the crown and result in complete baldness.  In men, it has been associated with other medical conditions that include enlargement of the prostate and coronary heart disease. If you are experiencing male pattern baldness, you should see your doctor and have the necessary evaluations done.

In women, hair begins to thin all over the head but usually does not result in total baldness. Female pattern Baldness has been linked to an increased risk of poly cystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) which is characterized by a hormonal imbalance that can result in irregular periods, acne, hirsutism-excessive hair on the body and excess weight gain.
In both sexes, please have your thyroid checked.  In some cases, hypothyroidism goes undetected for years and is responsible for hair loss that occurs in spurts. Hair thins, fall out and grows back intermittently in cycles.

OUR TRIPLE ACTION PLAN

Unlike the vast majority of hair growth products, our philosophy is that the best chance of success is to attack the hair loss both internally and externally.   If you have one of the auto-immune alopecias, or hair loss, we suggest first that you talk to your healthcare provider and once you do that then it's time to go to work healing yourself!

Our triple actioned plan consists of Detoxing, Nourishing and Growth.

With most autoimmune related hair loss and most other issues, the liver is the center of it, so we'll begin there.

Detox Your Liver

Studies have shown that many Auto-immune related issues can be improved by focusing on liver health.  While there are many dietary changes we can make such as minimizing our intake of caffeine, alcohol, sugar and grains, one of our favorite things to add to our daily regimen is Sorrel, othewise known as Hibiscus. The health benefits of this little red miracle flower are immeasurable.  Known around the world as a liver tonic, it benefits include relief from high blood pressure which contributes to hair loss, high cholesterol as well as digestive, immune system and inflammatory problems.   Research studies have also suggested that the antioxidant properties of hibiscus tea may also help in treating liver disease. Antioxidants help to protect your body from diseases because they neutralize the free radicals present in body tissues and cells. Therefore, we can confidently say that drinking hibiscus tea could increase your lifespan by maintaining good overall health in many organ systems.

Sorrel is also a powerful antioxidant that helps to rid the body of toxins, It is used around the world as a diuretic, to ward off allergies, reduce fever, shorten the duration of colds and flu, and oh yeah, TO BEAUTIFY SKIN. Sorrel is high in vitamins A, B, C, iron, potassium, and more!

One serving also provides 106% of your daily recommended intake of vitamin C!  Pretty impressive! Sorrel is also used around the world to lower bad cholesterol, and improve circulation. So go ahead, drink to a healthier liver and help put a dagger in hair loss.

BOOST YOUR NUTRITION

Add Cell Fuel 102 Sea Moss Powder Blend:

Cell Fuel 102 is a Powerhouse Herbal Blend of Nutrients!  Containing Organic Sea Moss, Bladderwrack & Burdock Root Powder which contains a WHOPPING 102 minerals, vitamins and other nutrients including iodine, zinc, calcium, potassium, sulfur, iron, and silica!  It’s also naturally loaded with selenium, phosphorus, manganese, B-complex vitamins AND vitamins A, C, E, G, and K along with IONIC SEA MINERALS that supports your thyroid, joints, digestive system, respiratory system and more!  Just a few scoops of this product gives your body the help it needs to maintain optimal cell function!

We created this blend after years of speaking with thousands of customers who hair loss could be traced to thyroid related issues and symptoms.  A little known fact by many doctors and the general public is that an imbalance in hormones (regulated by the thyroid) can result in alopecia and hair loss.  Cell Fuel contains Irish/Sea Moss which is amazing is its ability to help balance thyroid hormones.  Irish Moss contains the vital thyroid hormone precursor DI-Iodothyronine (DIT), and the thyroid hormones Thyroxin (T4) and Tri-iodothyronine (T3).

**Maybe you've been told that your thyroid function is normal according to your lab values but you still are suffering from thyroid symptoms - excessive weight gain, hair loss, sluggishness, heat intolerance and more.  Unfortunately, misdiagnosis is very common.  Research has shown that there are other reasons that won't show up on test which could be responsible for this.  A common reason, thyroid resistance occurs when your cells are resistant to your own thyroid hormone.  This is mainly caused by high stress and excessive cortisol.  In this instance, your pituitary gland and thyroid are working properly so your hormone levels are normal, but your cells won't allow the hormone in so you will still have symptoms.  If this is happening to you, you're not alone.  Keep talking with your doctor to formulate a plan.  I will go more in depth in a future blog post.  Stay tuned.

GROW YOUR HAIR

The third part of our Triple Action Plan is to attack the hair loss externally on your hair and scalp.  Our Beaucoup Hair Herbal Hair Systems have had years of proven success in helping thousands of people grow their hair back.  It consists of a Moisturizer, DHT Blocking Serum and Follicle Cleanser.  The three items works synergistically to stimulate hair growth thru three ways:  1. Clearing old wax debris (sebum) from the Follicles  2. Delivering essential nutrients directly to the hair follicles and scalp  3. Naturally Blocking DHT to eliminate further hair loss and stimulate new growth.
